During winter either your car being on the drive way or in a secure garage its going to get cold. The subwoofers fitted inside the trunk also are affected from this. The internals such as the voice coil and spider can sometimes get frosty and stiff from cold weather conditions. If you don't warm up the car subs in cold weather, chances of damaging them is really high. In summer this doesn't apply to you really, but in stormy weather its ideal to keep them running optimal at all times.
1) Start up your car let the engine run.
2) Turn on the stereo.
3) Turn the volume all the way down. Insert a bass test CD.
4) Play a frequency track of 20 HZ cycles and slowly increase the volume till around half.
5) Leave the test tone track playing for 5 minutes. This will move the mechanicals inside and loosen everything up before you bump them hard.
