Many gamers have noticed that the original 1000 PSP console had better signal strength compared against the newer PSP vita. This is due to the positioning of the actual wireless antenna module inside the handheld. You could try placing foil around the console to allow more signals to be reached to it. If thats not your cup of tea, then you can change the encryption from TKIP to AES to see if that makes any improvements to your internet router.
