Depending on which kind of television you have, sometimes it may not play Xbox 360 games in full screen all the time. This is usually because of incorrect resolution settings that don't match your TV. You can adjust these, but firstly it is ideal that you find out your televisions compatible resolution to ensure best possible picture quality.
1) Go to 'Console Settings'.
2) Then select 'Display' > 'HDTV settings'.
3) There will be different resolutions to choose from. Select the one that matches your TV's screen. Try to avoid selecting one that is too high unless supported, as you will result in a blank screen. You will then have to reset the display settings and start the process all over again.
