If your not sure whether or not the internal speaker inside your PS4 Controller is working, you can perform a quick audio hardware test. This will then allow you to identify if sound comes out of it or not immediately. Its very rare, but in some cases you might have a defect or the solder is broken off inside the connections.
1) Press the 'PlayStation' logo button on the dualshock 4 pad.
2) Enter the 'Adjust Devices' setting on screen.
3) Increase and decrease the volume. If the speaker is working, then you will hear a test audio audio sample.
